Last night I heard on Radio 4 a psychologist claiming that small children shouldn't watch the Thomas the Tank Engine TV series, because it shows a disproportionately high rate of accidents and crashes, which would scare kids off travelling by train.

Huh?

Try telling my toddler that he shouldn't watch Thomas. More to the point, try telling almost any toddler that they shouldn't play games about crashing trains. Or planes. Or cars. Or whatever. And don't tell me that a TV series about a railway line that ran perfectly, with no unusual incidents, would be nearly as interesting!

Today, said psychologist appears to be back-pedalling somewhat, talking more about parents watching TV with their kids. Bah.
